-Added updated panel identification information in the review and at the bottom. Credit to review comment from Dawn B. Roy.
-Added brief subjective experience.
-Listing of which panels to expect depending on the model/series (still, check your box, or the back of your TV as described below) - also credit to D.B.R.

Short version: A "TV" is a container for its panel, with some additional features (such as speakers). Buying a TV with a different panel, even if it's the "same TV," is buying a different TV. Samsung seems to think we don't care - and many consumers may not. Most buyers may compare their new TV to an old one that isn't even full HD or to a typical* computer monitor, so any panel will look great, even if it costs more than it should due to (arguably) deceptive practices. In my experience, my TV seems to have the deficits listed for its panel - subpar viewing angles, especially with dark colors.

*TN panel or a CRT, as opposed to IPS or anything with better viewing angles, color, etc.

FULL:
Many of these TVs don't have a Samsung panel (the screen/the part that has/makes the image!)! I cannot believe this has not been mentioned. It makes a SUBSTANTIAL difference, because some panels they use should be in TV's that cost $100 less.

Gave this TV 5 stars because it is phenomenal!

I received my product in 2 days with Amazon Prime so shipping was right on time like promised. The factory settings on the TV are decent but you can make the picture look EXCELLENT if you tweak the settings to your liking. The picture is crisp and clear, making anything you watch way more enjoyable. The sound is also exceptional! It has the potential to be very loud if you put it on the "Amplify" setting which is located in your menu settings, and the speakers are in the back for those of you who are wondering.

As for the reviews about the apps not working, I did not have this problem. It seems that a lot of those reviews occurred awhile ago so they might have fixed that problem they were having. I turned the TV on and there was an update & everything works perfectly fine!

As for gaming, this TV is the best you can get at this price and anything below it. The input lag is 88ms but when you put it on PC mode it reduces the input lag to 44ms. If you don't know what input lag is, that is the half second delay when you're playing a first person shooter when you move your character. Input lag throws your game off and literally makes you worse than you really are ha-ha. For those wanting to know how to put it on PC mode, all you have to do is switch the input to the HDMI port you plugged your console in and when you select it you have to click tools on your remote. When you click tools on your remote, click edit name and then you should see where it says "PC." Click on that and BOOM, no more input lag and your video games run flawlessly

I think people have been writing this device off prematurely. I received my Roku TV this morning and in less than 3 hours I've been able to set up all the apps I needed (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Warner Instant Archive, HBOGO, ShowtimeAnytime, etc) and am peacefully enjoying my new toy, perfectly happy with the video quality and all other customizable features.

Let me take you through it step by step. The TV was surprisingly lite and easy to take out of the box. Installing the stand was simple and took maybe 5 minutes altogether. The first thing I noticed was the size of the screen. This 48 inch TV was an upgrade from my 39 inch Samsung. Still I didn't think it would make that big of a difference. Well it did. Part of this is because the black border is so thin (maybe a little over an inch).

The rest of the set up was again extremely simple. I had never had a roku account so that was the first thing I did. One nice thing about this I noticed is that Roku only has you input your credit card info once and then assigns you the option of using a pin the make purchases. Again an extremely simple solution to something that could prove to be a real hassle with hundreds of different streaming channels. I kept my macbook out while installing the rest of the additional channels which I think made the process easier.

It's worth noting that while attempting to customize the screensaver I hit my first snag. The program froze and none of the arrows would do anything. Worst yet was that turning the TV off did nothing as when I turned it back on I was taken to the same spot I had been frozen in. Fearing the worst I attempted to go on the support website, thinking I may have had a defective model

I got this TV specifically to use as a secondary monitor for my macbook air so I'll review it as that initially.

Resolution is good, I'm running it via thunderbolt->HDMI and extended monitor mode. 1920x1080. Text is very readable and there is no flicker that would cause eye strain. I'm surprised and pleased with it as a monitor. You do need to use the remote to go to tools->picture size and set to 'screen fit' to size it properly, but after that you're good to go!

I did play with the other features of the TV. Initial setup is easy but time consuming. I joined it to my wifi network without difficulty, but the upgrades took almost half an hour. Once that was complete however it's network connected and ready to go.

Hit the 'smart hub' button on the remote and you'll be taken to a default list of apps. Netflix was the one I was interested in. I signed in with my account and it properly allowed me to select my profile. Once into the app you'll find it's a bit difficult to navigate. No clue as to how you should search, you can only scroll around and select things. Selecting a movie, you'll find it might take long time to load. The quality on newer movies is typically great HD.

  • If by the time you're reading this, the software has been updated and all of the apps work properly, you can skip this first part.

Like many other reviewers have already noted, the TV came without any apps installed. This model was shipped out earlier than it was supposed to. I received it as a compensation item from Dell when the original TV they sold me was out of stock. As a result it was sent out early (I suppose Amazon started shipping too early as well), and when it came, none of the apps worked. Samsung support wasn't incredibly knowledgeable of the situation, but after a little research I found that they weren't compatible yet. Anyway, approximately two weeks later, the TV has updated and now has Netflix, Amazon Instant, and YouTube among others. Still no sign of HBO-GO and Hulu Plus, but I trust Samsung to deliver them soon enough. So if that is stopping your from getting the TV, don't let it. This is bound to be Samsung's standard model for 2014, and you can bet all of the standard apps will be there. On to the review of the TV..

  • I'm torn here. If I had purchased this solely for TV use, it would be 5 stars all the way. As it is, I purchased it as a PC monitor and here there are trade-offs, hence the 4-stars.

Yes, this will do 4k@60Hz BUT not at 4:4:4 color. For the PC folks, 4:4:4 is effecively 24bit color. I'm not a pro so I'm not sure if it's 4:2:2 or 4:2:0, but the yellowish fringing al ALL the single-pixel lines tells me that it's not 4:4:4. Basically, if 4:4:4 where 24bit (8bits red, 8bits green, 8bits blue), 4:2:0 would be more like 12 bits red, 6 bits green, 1 bit blue except that HDMI uses YUV which is luminosity (how bright), hue (what color) and saturation (how washed out is the color). This is because we are MOST sensitive to brightness, less to hue and less still to saturation. The trouble here is that there isn't an equal amount of data provided per color/sub-pixel and it can cause funny effects for computer graphics that aren't noticed on video because video adjusts for these variables AND is rarely as detail oriented in a unnatural way.

First of all, this little TV is outstanding for its size and price!

*Pros:
- Plays at a full 1080p which looks quite clean and crisp for whatever you're using it for (not the best, of course, but nonetheless great IMO).
- The frame itself looks sleek and elegant; no bulk whatsoever.
- It's very lightweight, around 6 pounds or so, perfect for moving it from place to place (as a college student, this is great for moving it to and from my house and dorm).
- I don't use the speakers that often, but it sounds pretty decent from my few experiences with it (although I am only about 5 feet away from it at most).

*Cons:
- The TV is aesthetically pleasing, in terms of the frame and picture, it feels somewhat cheap. The stand in particular is, I believe, pure plastic and seems very unstable sometimes. Not a deal breaker, but something I feel I need to point out.
- The preset settings are somewhat dark and displeasing, IMO, so you might want to tweak the settings a bit.

Now from a PC gaming standpoint, this is absolutely amazing!! As I said before, it looks great when playing any game, i.e Crysis 3, BF3, Fallout, etc. There is no lag or delayed reaction time on screen at all!

One thing I would like to mention is setting-up this TV as a PC monitor. IF you are doing this PLEASE READ THIS TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE FRUSTRATION. You will notice that the screen will look VERY blurry when you first connect your PC to the TV ( In my experience, this was through HDMI). There is a reason for this, which I won't go through in detail, but to fix this all you need to do is this:
1.) Hit menu
2.) Go to Source List
3.) Hit right twice
4.) Find the video connection you are using (Mine was HDMI, again)
5.) Hit Tools
